TED stands for Technology, Entertainment and Design. Ted-Ed is an offspring educational initiative — aims to amplify voices and ideas of students. The nonprofit that runs the conference and video series was born in 1984 as a format for professionals in technology, entertainment and design (hence the name) to share their innovative ideas, but it struggled to make money up until 1990. Now, there are over 1,500 TED Talk videos and thousands of events held across over 150 countries.
